Avery Drabble : Pears

Sometime in the 90’s, I discovered my love for pears. It was completely by accident, as mishap while grocery shopping.
I could not tell you what I had meant to grabbed, but I was not paying attention as I bagged a handful of fruit in the market. I was rather distracted by a child who had been following me all throughout the store, so I was not quite watching as I reached down and grabbed four or five pears.
I noticed as I checked out that my total had come out to more than I had calculated, but assumed it was an inflation on the price of fresh fruit for some reason or another.
When I got home, as I was putting away the rest of my groceries, I plucked a pear from the bag and took a bite. Confused as to why the taste was off, I checked the bag and realized what I had grabbed instead. I finished that pear, quite happily, as I put the rest of my food away. Once finished, I ate another. And another. By the end of the night, I was out of pears.
I went back the next day and bought at least two pounds of pears.
And again two days later.
I unnoticingly spent two whole weeks eating nothing but pears. I only noticed once all the food in my small apartment had completely rotted and bugs were starting to appear.
When I moved to where I live now, I made sure to plant myself a pear tree. They are most definitely better fresh, but the months I do not have any fresh fruit are quite frustrating.
