Avery's Earliest Memory

Master Gustav, the day he lured me away, and how I ended up like this.
He approached me, told me he had work he would pay me for. I was a young boy who had naught to eat for at least two days, so any offer of money was grand.
For the first week or so, I did manual labor for him. Cleaned and other such chores, while he worked away in his basement. In return, he fed me. It was not the pay I had thought it would be, but I was not going to complain. The smallest meal was more than I would usually get in a week on the streets.
I knew he was hiring other children to work for him. I saw him bring them home. Each one he brought home stayed in my room for a night or two. Most of them were younger than me, and a lot of them were sick. Master Gustav would bring them into his basement, asking for help with one thing or another, and I would never see them again.
Naturally, I was curious, so one day, I followed him down. He caught me, and that is how I got dragged into this whole mess.
